Lessons are scheduled for times and dates that are convenient for both the student and teacher. How frequently you have lessons is up to you.
Native American Style Flute
In addition to the standard pentatonic Native flute, Cornell teaches other Native flutes including the rim-blown flutes (e.g. “Hopi” and “Anasazi” style).
We cover many aspects of flute playing and music creation, including:
- Technique and tonal quality
- Basic Native flute scale and alternate scales
- Improvisation and embellishment
- Composition
- Musical expression
Bamboo/bansuri flute
Cornell’s instruction on bamboo or bansuri flute is geared towards players of other flutes who want to add skills with side-blown flute. We cover:
- Embouchure and breath technique for side-blown flutes
- Tone quality and intonation
- Ease in playing across the entire range of the flute
- Western-style music for our instrument
- Improvisation and embellishment
Ocarina
Ocarina lessons focus on the 12-hole single ocarina or multi-chamber instruments. We work from popular method books. We cover:
- Basic music reading
- Technique and tone qualtiy
- Music from Classical, Folk, Anime, Video Game and Film music
Recorder
Cornell takes a traditional approach to teaching recorder. We work from established method books and our focus is primarily literature from the Baroque and Renaissance periods, but also include music from folk and popular genres. We cover:
- Proper breath and articulation technique
- Multiple sizes of recorders, including both C- and F-fingerings
- Historic performance practice
- Standard repertoire for our instrument
Cornell Kinderknecht is an award-winning World Flutes performing and recording artist and instructor. He teaches individual music lessons as well as group classes for Native and other world flutes. His classes and lessons are either online (through Zoom or Skype) or in-person in the Dallas, Texas USA area.
