About this class:
In the Spring 2017 session of this 4-week course, we will focus on embellishing melodies, playing with confidence and ease, finding interesting note combinations, and expressive playing. Some topics may include:
♦ Review embellishments and create new ornaments
♦ Phrasing and musical interpretation
♦ Playing smoothly and not-so-smoothly
♦ Skill development

* A pentatonic Native American flute is required for this class. If you need one, a high quality flute will be provided upon requset for an additional $60.

Instuctor: Cornell Kinderknecht
Cornell Kinderknecht is an award-winning World Flutes performing and recording artist as well as a teacher. In addition to his own solo albums, his work can be heard on numerous other artists' recordings across many genres. He has a private studio of flute students in Dallas and is in demand as a performer and presenter at music workshops and festivals around the US. With his expertise, he provides practical interactive instruction while his light-hearted approach puts students at ease. Cornell is an Indian Summer Music Awards winner, an early round Grammy nominee, and twice a Texas Music Awards finalist. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the United States Ocarina Association.
Requirements / Pre-requisites:
Requirements for this course:
  1. Students should have either one of these pre-requisites:
    • Attended previous levels (1 & 2) in this series of classes
              OR
    • Intermediate through advanced experince with the Native flute
  2. Fluency with the basic NAF scale and some experience in the extended scale.
  3. Experience with NAF tablature is suggested.
  4. A pentatonic Native American flute is required for this class. If you need one, a high-quality flute will be provided upon request ($60 material cost). The key of A-minor is prefered for exercises that we play together as a class.
  5. Curiosity, willingness to experiment, and a the desire to have fun while learning music.
